This happened Wednesday in Baltimore, Maryland. An $11 million dollar judgment was awarded to the plaintiff father of a soldier killed in Iraq. It seems the defendant, a fundamentalist Kansas church, preaches that its parishioners picket military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality. Yup! You read it right!

Try to digest that without vomiting.

Yes! It happened. Albert Snyder of York, Pa. sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after church members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.
