TRYING TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT EACH DAY

By Harvey Tobkes

At age 89,”most of it”…is behind me, but no matter, I try, every day, in my own way, to make the most of whatever is ahead of me.

Today, I hit a home run…I had lunch with Julie and Anita at Bimini Boatyard, a beautiful waterside restaurant on the 17th Street Causeway. I started with a spicy Bloody Mary, then a colorful salad with tomatoes, mozzarella, red and yellow peppers, bordered with little 1 inch squares of toasted garlic bread, sprinkles of walnuts and topped off with large, delicious blackened shrimp. As the expression goes…it was to die for, and I left the restaurant feeling no pain.

On the way home, Anita surprised me by detouring into a Publix market on a pretense (she said she need some things for Thursday’s Thanksgiving dinner) instead, she surprised me with one of my favorites, which I have not had in a long time…a key lime pie. As soon as we got home, I had a heathy slice with a cup of Keurig brewed hazelnut coffee; if that wasn’t enough I turned on CNN and sure enough the news was good. Manson croaked in prison and the Dow was up.

That’s just me…making the most of it today and thinking what I am going to do tomorrow.
