YOUR TONE OF VOICE TELLS ALL ~ IT’S NOT WHAT YOU SAY, IT’S THE WAY THAT YOU SAY IT

Gain greater awareness of the “tone of voice” of other people. Listen to the way people speak when they are joyous, when they are cheerful, when they are upbeat. Listen to the way people speak when they are calm and relaxed. And listen to the ways people speak when they are impatient or angry.

No matter what or how much you say, your tone of voice, facial expression and eye contact will broadcast so much more.

In person, look at the other person when you speak, not at the conference table or the wall. On the phone, smile — it will make your voice sound warmer. It’s not just what you say, but how you say it, that will help others connect with you.

Let every positive tone of voice serve as a reminder for you to speak with a pleasant tone of voice to others. Let every negative tone of voice serve as a reminder for you not to speak that way to others.

Some people can even say the innocuous greeting “good morning” and their tone of voice tells you they hate you.
