Dear Internal Revenue Service:
Enclosed is my 2007 tax return showing that I owe $5,464.00 in taxes.
Please note the attached article from USA Today, wherein you will see that NASA has paid $600.00 for a toilet seat and the Pentagon is paying $171.50 for hammers.
I am therefore enclosing eight toilet seats (value $4800.00) and four hammers (value $686.00), bringing my grand total remitted $5486.00. Please apply the overpayment of $22.00 to the “Presidential Election Fund” as noted on my return.
It has been a pleasure to pay my tax bill for 2007, and although no one knows what items USA Today will target next year, I am looking forward to their findings and paying what I owe the IRS in this same fashion.
Sincerely,
A Satisfied Taxpayer
