BIG LOSER — LOSS: $1.4 BILLION

The Dell founder and CEO lost a chunk of his net worth in the market this fall. He originally landed at number 11 on Forbes’ list of the 400 richest Americans, with a net worth of $17.3 billion, $100 million more than his 2007 net worth. But when the magazine recalculated its 2008 list to take into account the current financial meltdown, they found that the Austin, Texas-based Dell lost $1.4 billion from the end of August to the beginning of October. So now his net worth is down to $15.9 billion. We think he can get by on that.
