60-Year-Old New Jersey Woman Gives Birth To Twin Boys; Sets U.S. Record

Hackensack, NJ (AHN)-On Tuesday, the record books for the oldest woman to give birth to twins in the United States was shattered when 60-year-old Frieda Birnbaum successfully underwent a caesarean section to deliver two boys at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey.
The two boys, who weighed 4 pounds, 11.4 ounces, and 4 pounds, 11 ounces, respectively, were delivered by Dr. Abdulla Al-Khan, director of prenatal diagnostics and therapeutics in the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the New Jersey area hospital.
After the birth, Birnbaum, who already has three other children ranging from six to 33, said she felt in good spirits, despite her age.
