THAT WAS NOT SO TERRIBLE!

By Harvey Tobkes

The ESPN network this week suspended Bob Griese from broadcasting a college football game on Saturday for the remark he made about race car driver Juan Pablo Montoya. During a spot for NASCAR, the top five drivers in the standings were shown and Griese was asked where Montoya was in the promotion. He answered by saying the Colombian was, “out having a taco.” At the end of the game, Griese apologized, saying that “Juan Pablo Montoya, he’s one of the best drivers in NASCAR. I just want to apologize for the comment I made earlier in the ballgame.”

Some call it a gaffe by Miami Dolphin’s, Hall of Famer, ex superstar quarterback, I call it hypersensitivity to ethnic food associations. So what’s the big deal? These days, when it comes to minorities a little humor is unacceptable. Why can’t we laugh at ourselves sometimes. Just look in a mirror if you want a good laugh!

I have compiled a list of some ethnic dishes that have become staples and food favorites of generation after generation, and therefore define the group:

Germans: Bratwurst & beer.
Poles: Kielbasi
Jews Bagels & Lox
Blacks: Chicken [Charles Barkley said… Col. Sanders was the greatest white man that ever lived.]
Swedish: Meatballs
Italians: Pasta
Irish: Booze
Mexicans: Tacos
Chinese: Won Ton soup
Russians: Borsht
