ALBERT EINSTEIN’S CHILDREN
Albert Einstein (1879-1955) whose Special Theory of Relativity was published 100 years ago, had two sons with his first wife, Mileva.
The elder of the two boys was Hans (1904-1973), a hydraulics engineer and professor at the University of California at Berkely, noted for his research on river sediment and tidal flows. His younger brother, Eduard (1910-1965), planned to study medicine, but was diagnosed with schizophrenia at age 20 and was cared for by his mother until her death in 1948. He spent the remainder of his life in a psychiatric institution.
