FOR TYPE “A” PEOPLE
By Harvey Tobkes
There are two cardinal features of the type A personality that we must remember, namely, “time urgency or time- impatience” and pervasive hostility.” People with these traits are highly prone to having heart attacks. Type A’s usually do not have successful marriages, and neither are they good at parenting. I used to fit that description, but no more.
Being retired for the past 18 years, I have no specialized field of interest or expertise. My work these days is human nature. Real life is all I know. I used to think my work was my life. Now I am older and perhaps a little wiser.
“No man ever said on his deathbed, “I wish I had spent more time at the office,” and don’t ever forget the words…. “If you win the rat race, you’re still a rat.”
Or what John Lennon wrote before he was gunned down in the driveway of the Dakota: “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.”
