TROUBLES TROUBLING YOU?
Helen Keller said, “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired, and success achieved.”
Everything that happens to you makes you who you are.
In his book, If God Is Good, Why Is The world so Bad? author Rabbi Benjamin Blech wrote a symbolic comparison between our immune system and our psyche:
Experience can be compared to a vaccine. You get injected with a culture of the disease, which causes an immune response that in turn gives the body a resistance. But, if you think about it, it sounds a little counter productive; why introduce the disease into the body if your goal is to keep the disease out of it! But germs happen and no one can stop them.
The way to weaken germs is to learn how to respond to them, and ingraining that to the immune system’s memory. The only way a person’s immune system can strengthen itself, and learn how to defend itself, is if it has a chance to. It’s the immune system’s experience with the problem or germs that make it stronger.
Look at your past problems as if they educated you on how to deal with the present one.
