OF ALL OUR PRESIDENTS, OBAMA HAD THE MOVES

A few years ago, I was watching The Kennedy Center Honors on CBS TV. The first honoree was Carlos Santana, who in his day wrote and played stirring music that made you want to rock and dance. His version of “Black Magic Woman,” was a huge hit. Santana’s band’s sound featured his melodic, blues-based guitar lines set against Latin and African rhythms featuring percussion instruments such as timbales and congas not generally heard in rock music.

When “Black Magic Woman,” was performed on stage at Kennedy Center, Obama not only lip synced the words perfectly but he moved in his seat in perfect rhythm to the beat. He was loose! He was one of us. He was beautiful.

And that gave me a laugh because in my warped mind I pictured 4 white guys… Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Lyndon B. Johnson and Ike Eisenhower sitting there, stone-faced like those other 4 presidents on Mount Rushmore.

Barack Obama, you’re the man… “the music man president.” You rock!
